Our Saint this week is Mauricio Rodriguez. Mauricio is from Venezuela, and in the interview we talked about his dreams and aspirations in life.

Reporter: “Mauricio, you told me earlier on that you’re from Venezuela. So, how come you are in the United States ?”

Mauricio: “Well, I’m here because I was able to won a scholarship to study in this country. It was one of the happiest days of my life, because it was one of my dreams to study in the United States, and here I am making one of my dreams come true.”

Reporter: “I can imagine your excitement. There is nothing like making dreams come true. So, what are you studying and why?”

Mauricio: “I’m studying Biology, and I chose this major because I want to be a physical therapist.”

Reporter: “Interesting. It is said that most students have a common denominator: miss their families when studying abroad. What can you do about that?”

Mauricio: “That’s true. All international students have experienced or still experiencing homesick. It’s hard to get rid of that feeling. I have friends here, but there is not a single day that I won’t miss my family…”

Reporter: “And what you do when you feel anxious?”

Mauricio: “Well, I try to focus on my studies, talk to a friend or play sports, just to keep me busy.”

Reporter: “Apart from Spanish and English, do you speak or understand any other language?”

Mauricio: “Yes, I understand Portuguese and Italian, but I cannot speak.”

Reporter: “What do you like or not (about) Siena Heights University?”

Mauricio: “Mmm. I cannot really think about something negative, because when you’re fulfilling your dreams, there is always going to be difficulties. But it’s your job to overcome those problems. As for what I like about this university, I would say that people here are very friendly and always willing to help. Both teachers and students make you feel as part of a family. And it is very easy to make friends here.”

Reporter: “Mauricio, do you have a favorite book? If yes, what makes it interesting to you?”

Mauricio: “Yes. My favorite book is called ‘Pursuit of Happyness.’ I like this book because it is about being persistent with dreams and expectations in order to succeed.”

Reporter: “Interesting. Mauricio that was it for today. It’s been a pleasure talking with you.”

Mauricio: Thank you.

Nuestro santo de la semana se llama Mauricio Rodriguez. Mauricio es de Venezuela y en la entrevista nos habló sobres sus sueños y aspiraciones.

Reportera: “Mauricio, me dijiste que eres venezolano, y como es que estas en los Estados Unidos?”

Mauricio: “Pues si, soy de Venezuela. Pues estoy aquí porque tuve la oportunidad de ganarme una beca para cursar estudios en este país. Fue uno de los días más felices de mi vida, porque era uno de mis sueños estudiar en los Estados Unidos y estoy haciendo uno de mis sueños realidad.”

Reportera: “Me lo imagino, nada mejor como que los sueños se hagan realidad. Y que estas estudiando?Y porque la elegiste?”

Mauricio: “Mi carrera es Biología y elegí esta carrera porque quiero ser fisio terapeuta.”

Reportera: “Interesante. Se dice que la mayoría de estudiantes tienen un denominador común: echar de menos a sus familiares. Que opinas sobre eso?”

Mauricio: “Muy cierto. Todo estudiante internacional de alguna o de otra forma echamos de menos a nuestras familias y amistades.Soy feliz aqui porque estoy cumpliendo mis suenhos y tengo amigos aqui en la universidad, pero no hay dia que no extranhe a mi familia.”

Reportera: “Y que haces cuando te sientes angustiado?”

Mauricio: “Pues procuro centrarme en mis estudios, hablar con algún amigo o hacer deporte.”

Reportera: “Aparte del español e ingles, hablas o entiendes algún otro idioma?”

Mauricio: “Si, entiendo portugués e italiano pero no lo hablo.”

Reportera: “Qué es lo que te gusta o no hasta ahora de la universidad de Siena Heights?”

Mauricio: “Mmm. No sabria decir que hay de negativo porque estoy cumpliendo mis sueños y a veces no es fácil, porque todo lo que vale la pena cuesta. En cuanto a lo que me gusta de la universidad, diría que la gente. La gente aquí es muy amable y siempre dispuesta a ayudar. Tanto profesores como estudiantes hacen que te sientas en familia. Es muy fácil hacer amigos aquí.”

Reportera: “Mauricio, algún libro favorito y porque?”

Mauricio: “Si, mi libro favorito se llama ‘Pursuit of Happyness.’ Me gusta mucho este libro porque trata sobre ser persistente con los sueños y expectativas si queremos triunfar.”

Reportera: “Interesante. Mauricio eso ha sido todo por hoy. Ha sido un placer hablar contigo.”

Mauricio: “Muchas gracias, el placer ha sido mío.”
