Phi Sigma Sigma School Supply Drive Wraps Up

Hispanic Heritage month is currently happening, and Siena Heights University has multiple groups getting together to create a number of various activities to participate in throughout the next four weeks.

Currently located around the University are bins that are waiting to be filled with school supplies. Phi Sigma Sigma, the University’s one and only sorority, is hosting a school supply drive. All supplies received will go towards the underprivileged students of Lenawee County.

Ready for donations, these bins are blue with a sign on them so they are easy to identify. Phi Sigma Sigma’s philanthropy is school and college readiness, so this particular drive is right up its alley.

The philanthropy chair holder for the sorority, Breanna Warner, shared how the idea for the drive became a reality: “One of the sisters heard Sharese talking about how she wanted to do a school supply drive for Hispanic Heritage Month and put me in contact with her.”

Warner said she decided to take advantage of this opportunity and took charge in organizing the school supply drive for the sorority.

“We will come around and collect the supplies when the bins are full or when the drive is over,” said Warner.

The drive was originally due to end Sept. 22, but Warner says that the drive is looking to be extended. Warner was unsure as to how much longer the drive would be taking place. Meanwhile, for any prospective female students interested in joining the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, Warner said, “We have recruitment going on right now, but it is a little late to join.”

Even though it seems as if it is too late to join this year, the sorority will host a “Pie at the Phi” for its Siena Heights University homecoming game tailgater.
