The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later

This February, the Siena Heights Performing Arts Center, will be putting on, “The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later.” The play is originally about the murder of Matthew Shepard, a homosexual student at the University of Wyoming in 1998. This incident caused the passage of hate crime legislation. The play means to address issues such as tolerance and prejudice with homosexuality. The director of the play is longtime Saints theater faculty member, Trudy McSorley. She is coming out of retirement to direct this final project. She was the director of the previous versions of this month’s production in 2003 and 2004.

Of the cast members’ only one senior student will have a part in this production, Will McMillan. McMillan is a theater major from Flushing, Michigan, and has been acting in public performances since the age of 7. He was in multiple child performances and was a member of the children’s theater in Flint. Since his first performance here at SHU, McMillan has acted in 18 shows, these include his One Acts performances and his favorite being his senior project, “Fortinbras,” which was in November of 2013. In “The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later,” McMillan is playing the role of Moisès Kaufman, as well as, 7 different characters throughout the play. After his graduation from SHU, McMillan plans on moving to Seattle, Washington to begin his profession in live theater and eventually make his own independent films.

“The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later,” will open at 8 p.m. on February 6th and will run until the 8th. All curtain times are at 8 p.m. and the box-office will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students. Seating is limited.
