“As we all can tell, this school is kind of creepy. Not just your ordinary creepy… ghostly creepy,” said freshman Tyrus Sonneborn.

With Halloween last weekend, many students have been dabbling in thoughts of the paranormal.

ParaSHU is a new club emerging at Siena Heights University. Hunter Nino came up with the idea to start the club, and many students were immediately interested. Sonneborn is a freshman and on the board for the new club.

The club is growing rapidly.

Sonneborn said, “Our first official meeting as a club saw about 10 members.”

Since its take off, the group has had nearly 30 people at a single meeting.

“Our goal as a club is to explore Siena Heights University and the surrounding area of Adrian for paranormal activity, to confirm or debunk myths about the school and anywhere else we investigate,” Sonneborn said.

With all of the inspecting the club is participating in, many may be skeptical about the crew’s intentions.

Sonneborn said, “This group is not a ghost hunting group. In other words, we are not deliberately taunting or communicating with spirits, only observing.”

Their intention isn’t to disturb any resting spirits, only to see if the spirits are willing to reach out to them, he said.

However, when it comes to the findings that the group discovers, they’re fairly secretive.

Sonneborn said, “The information we collect is also confidential to the group so if you want specifics it’s vital you attend a meeting.”

When dabbling with spirits, safety is always a concern. But ParaSHU believes in protecting its members.

“Our group takes the utmost care to make sure that members are safe and protected from any spirits or demons if there are any present,” said Sonneborn.

On the night of the meeting, one to three groups are decided consisting of two to five people to assure that no one is investigating by themselves.

If any student is interested in becoming a member of the club, or partaking in a meeting, ParaSHU meets at 7 p.m. every Monday and at 8 p.m. every Thursday in Rueckert Auditorium. ParaSHU will also be involved in fundraising events that will be posted around campus.
