Our international student this week is César Mba. César is from East Africa and he’s in his second year of college. He’s studying international business at Siena Heights. Many of you may wonder “how come he’s from Africa and he speaks Spanish?” Well, Cesar is from a small country in Africa called Equatorial Guinea. This is the only country in Africa where people speak Spanish. It was colonized by Spain in 1968. That said, we had the opportunity to interview César:

Reporter: Well, tell us, how you came to the United States ?

Cesar: Well, back in my country I had the opportunity to win a scholarship to study in the United States and that’s why I’m here. I did not think twice because it was one of my dreams to study in this country and I am fulfilling one my dreams.

Reporter: Interesting. And how do you chose and hear about Siena Heights University?

Cesar: When I arrived in the United States, I lived in Ann Arbor, which is very near from here. And one day the director of the English center talked about this university. I think he used to work here. One day I decided to come to Siena so that I could learn a bit more about this university. I immediately liked this university. It’s a quiet city, good for concentration, and I thought it was a good place for study.

Reporter: We know this is your second year. How are you adapting yourself?

Cesar: Well, it has not been easy. It is not easy to leave behind what is practically your whole life, family and friends. I try as much as I can. I have made a few friends here and their company helps me a lot. I try to attend some parties to socialize with people and to learn more about other cultures.

Reporter: What have been your difficulties so far?

Cesar: At first, I had some difficulty such as having problems trying to keep up with classes. Language was another obstacle because sometimes I couldn’t express myself well. But,I’m over it and I’m improving.

Reporter: What is your favorite class?

Cesar: International Business is my favorite. It is a subject that I like and in each class I learn something new.

Reporter: Do you have favorite teacher?

Cesar: (Laughs ..) Sure, but of course I will not say the name (he laughs again) .. But generally, most of the teachers are very professional and are always there to help and answer questions.

Reporter: Interesting. Well, that’s all. Thanks, Cesar. It has been a pleasure talking with you.

SANTOS POR EL MUNDO: Cesar Mba

Nuestro estudiante internacional de esta semana se llama César Mba. César es africano, del Africa del Este y está en su segundo año de carrera. Estudia relaciones internacionales en la universidad de Siena Heights . Muchos os preguntareis “ como es que es de África y habla español? Pues si, César es de un país pequeño de África llamado Guinea Equatorial. Este país es el único en África en que la gente habla español. Fue colonizado por España en el año 1968. Dicho esto tuvimos la oportunidad de entrevistar a César quien nos contó lo siguiente:

Reportera: Hola Cesar, como estas?

Cesar: Estoy bien, gracias.

Reportera: Bueno cuéntanos, como llegaste a los Estados Unidos?

Cesar: Pues anios atras en mi pais tuve la oportunidad de ganar una beca para cursar estudios en los Estados Unidos y pues, aqui estoy. No lo pensé dos veces porque era uno de mis sueño estudiar en este país y lo estoy cumpliendo.

Reportera: Interesante. Y como es que elegiste y escuchaste hablar de la universidad de Siena Heights?

Cesar: Cuando llegue a los Estados Unidos, vivía en Ann Arbor, que esta muy cerca de aquí. Y pues en el centro de inglés al que iba nos hablaron de esta universidad. Un dia vine de vivita a la universidad para informarme mejor sobre la universidad.No solo me gusto la ciudad porque es tranquila y va mas con mi personalidad, pero me gustaron las normas y la universidad en general. Me pareció un buen lugar para estudiar.

Reportera: Nos has dicho que es tu segundo año, como es que te estas adaptando?

Cesar: Pues no ha sido fácil. No es fácil dejar atrás lo que es practicamente toda tu vida, familia y amigos. Procuro acoplarme lo más que puedo. Tengo varias amistades aquí y su compañía me ayuda bastante. Intento ir a alguna que otra fiesta, hacer amigos y relacionarme cuando puedo.

Reportera: Cuales han sido tus dificultades hasta ahora?

Cesar: pues ahora no, pero al principio tuve algunas dificultades como era seguir el ritmo de las clases, el idioma era otro obstáculo porque a veces no podía expresar o dar mis puntos de vista.Pero lo he superado y estoy mejorando.

Reportera: Cual es tu clase favorita?

Cesar: Mi clase de Negocio Internacional es mi favorita. Es una materia que me gusta y en cada clase aprendo algo nuevo.

Reportera: Y tienes algún profesor favorito?

Cesar: (Se ríe..) Claro que sí, pero claro que no dire el nombre aquí porque igual los otros se molesten( se ríe otra vez)..Pero generalmente en esta uni todos los profesores son muy profesionales y siempre están ahí para ayudar y responder a las dudas.
