Men’s Basketball

This last week the Saints posted a split between Indiana Tech and the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Wednesday night, the Saints hosted Indiana Tech in a conference battle. In the first half the Saints held a 35-32 lead thanks to the shooting of Christian Coville, Eric Cogan, and George Goodman, who accounted for 23 of the 35 points along with 13 of the 20 rebounds in the half. As a team the Saints shot 48 percent in the first half while limiting Indiana Tech to less than 41 percent. In the second half however, the Saints gave up 43 points while allowing them to shoot 44 percent from the field and 54 percent from the arc. The Saints were beat by points off turnovers as well as Indiana Tech bench points.Outscored by 16 points in the second half, the Saints lost to Indiana Tech 75-62.

Saturday the Saints squared off against UM-Dearborn and came out swinging in the first half reeling off 43 points taking a five point lead and led by as much as 13 within the first half. In the second half rebounding became a big component as the Saints  allowed the Wolverines to climb back into the game and take the lead three separate times within the final minutes. Christian Coville led the Saints with 14 points and a pair of free throws to help set up a lead with a bit of one minute left, but George Goodman sealed the deal for the Saints with a game-winning jumper to give the Saints a 66-65 win. Goodman and Eric Cogan both finished with 12 points respectively to round up the scoring trio. The Saints look to take on Madonna Wednesday night in a conference matchup.

Women’s Basketball

The Saints won both games this past week against both Indiana Tech and U of M Dearborn. Wednesday night, the Saints took on Indiana Tech at home in a conference battle. Taking a 30-27 lead into halftime, the Saints looked ready to finish strong in the second act but Indiana Tech came out with a 25 point flurry and looked in control in the waking moments. Then Sierra Calhoun produced what she’d been bringing out all night: greatness. With less than three seconds on the clock, Calhoun hit a game-tying three for the Saints sending them into OT. From then on it was all Saints as they  outscored Indiana Tech 17-3 in the extra period, ending in a 69-55 win at home. Sierra Calhoun led the charge with 28 points and Kenzie Tomasik grabbed 10 rebounds.

Saturday the Saints took on U of M Dearborn and controlled from beginning to end in an 82-55 route. From the beginning the Saints took a 24-6 lead and held a 25- point lead at the half. In the second half the Saints at one point led by 30 points and held firm control of the rebound battle as well as bench contributions 45-7. Kenzie Tomasik led the team with a perfect shooting night of 5-5 from the field and 3-3 from the stripe for 13 points, followed by Alexxis Knannlein with 12 points and Sierra Calhoun with 10 respectively. The Saints next travel to Madonna on Wednesday for a conference showdown.

Men’s Track

Your fifth-ranked Saints had Richard DePalma place fifth in Pole vault at the Penn State’s National on Friday clearing 15’ 9 ¼” and was the lone Saint to compete.

Saturday the Saints DePalma continued his hot streak while competing in the SPIRE Midwest Open, clearing 17’ ¾” and posting a new school record while winning the Pole vault. Nick Goyette finished third with a height of 15’11”.

Women’s Track

The fifth-ranked Saints and top performer Kasey Renshaw broke her own and Siena’s new school record in the weight throw at Findlay’s seventh annual Throws Competition. Renshaw placed eighth with a distance of 63’8 ¾”, over a foot better than her previous school record.

Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open, Phoenix Duncan won High jump with 5’5” and a jump-off. Sheila McKinley also placed in pole vault. Clearing a height of 11’ 5 ¾”, McKinley placed fifth before falling to seventh in a jump-off.

Men’s Volleyball

This past weekend the Saints traveled to Illinois to participate in a weekend tournament. On day one, the Saints took on Trinity International in a five set showdown. Trailing two sets to none, the Saints roared back to take sets three and four, limiting Trinity to less than 20 points in each set. In the final set, the Saints came out with a 15-13 set and match win thanks to some great kills from Gilius Blinstrubas (13) and Tyler Hubbard (9).

On Saturday, the Saints had two separate matches against Saint Xavier and Calumet Saint Joseph and split between the two of them. Against Saint Xavier, the Saints lost the opening pair of sets by eight and three points before striking back in set three winning 25-22. In set four, Saint Xavier seemed in complete control, holding the Saints to less than 15 points along with 10 errors. The Saints lost to Saint Xavier 3-1 before headed up against Calumet Saint Joseph. Against Calumet, the Saints won in straight sets only needing to go over in the first set to win it 28-26. Lance Bough recorded nine kills while Arthur Gwoszdz added 30 assists. The Saints travel to Lourdes next Tuesday in a conference rematch.

Men’s Bowling

Last Friday the Saints took fourth as a team at the Great Lakes Classic and teammate Kenneth DeGraaf was the overall singles champion with a 236.75 average and being named to the all-tournament team. Fellow teammate Trevor Goodfriend placed tenth with an average of 199 points. As a team, the Saints scored a total of 6,779 total points

Women’s Bowling

The Saints participated in the Great Lakes Classic last weekend and brought home their first ever tournament championship. Allison Caswell led the Saints by winning the event with an average of 202.25 per game and led a trio of fellow Saints on the all-tournament team. Teammate Tiffany Logan was second with an average of 197.25, while Tiffany Paraventi held an average of 185.75 The team sported a team point total of 6,846, beating Aquinas for the top spot by 98 points.

Cheer

The Saints traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind., to participate in the Winter Classic. The Saints competed and took runner-up to host Saint Francis on the 65-point team scale. The Saints cheer and dance teams will next compete in the All-Saints Dual Saturday, Feb. 7 in the Fieldhouse.
