Men’s Basketball

Last week, the Saints split their two games, falling to Madonna and beating Marygrove. Wednesday night the Saints traveled to Livonia to battle the Madonna Crusaders. Being down 10 at the end of the first half, in part due to shooting under 30 percent while allowing Madonna to shoot 40 percent made for an uphill battle in the second. Tyler Leighton kept the Saints in it as well as his shooting streak by pouring in 18 second half points while the team shot over 55 percent from the field. Even with their shooting however, the Saints were unable to recover falling 76-65.

Saturday, the Saints hosted Marygrove. Running on all cylinders, the Saints held a 21-point lead midway through the first half before ending the half giving up a 16-4 run to the Mustangs. The Saints held a 45-32 lead at halftime and continued their dominance into the second stanza. The Saints as a team racked up 29 assists and shot 50 percent from the field. The Saints were led by Jerrell Martin’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, along with George Goodman and Christian Coville with 16 and 15 points respectively. The Saints also piled in 44 bench points as they went on to win 104-73. The Saints next take on Cornerstone Wednesday on the road.

Women’s Basketball

The Saints split their two games this past week taking on 25th-ranked Madonna and Marygrove. Wednesday night the Saints went against Madonna in a battle of ranked oddities. Although the Saints trailed 35-29 at the end of the first half, they opened the second with an 11-point run to climb ahead of the Crusaders. The Crusaders answered with a 13-0 run however, retaking the lead and keeping it for good. The Saints shot just 37 percent from the field,  21 percent from behind the arc, contributing to their offensive struggles. Sierra Calhoun led the Saints with 21 points while Makenzie Tomasik had a double double of 11 points and 10 boards.

Saturday night, the Saints took on Marygrove at home. The Saints opened up with an 11-0 run and had another stretch later in the first half which ended in a 28-6 riot. The Saints took a 51-21 halftime lead, shooting 56 percent from the field in the first half and out rebounding Marygrove 62-40.
