At Siena Heights University, we seek good academic performance for  our students as well as their physical and moral well-being. We think it’s important to succeed and achieve, setting goals that the student, especially international students, will feel at ease with their surroundings, the people around them, amenities and more. This week we interviewed another one of our international students, David Felipe Parra Ruiz from Columbia, who told us about his preferences in life.

Reporter: Hello, how are you?
Student: I’m fine, thank you.

Reporter: Do you have any hobbies? Is there any activity or sport that you practice?
Student: Yes, when I don’t have too much homework, I love to spend time with my friends or play football. It is a sport that I love and have been playing since I was very young. I like playing football because I really like it and besides that it’s very important to be always in a good shape.
Reporter: What’s your favorite food?
Student: My favorite food is Ajiaco.
Reporter: Ajiaco? It doesn’t sound familiar, i guess it’s a typical food from your country, right?
Student: Yeah… Ajiaco is a typical dish from my country.It’s a soup made with potatoes, chicken, corn, bananas and vegetables.
Reporter: Mmm, sounds delicious… And what are you studying?
Student: I’m studying Sport Management, because in the future I want to become a sport agent (soccer).
Reporter: Any favorite book?
Student: Yes, I like one particular and it’s called “In Pursuit of Excellence.”
Reporter: Interesting. … And why do you like this book in particular? And who is the author?
Student: The book’s author is Terry Orlick, and I like the book because it talks about strategies and techniques to achieve excellence in the sport and it is very important to me because it’s what I want to do with my career.
Reporter: We are at the end of our interview, but I have one last question: What do you like and not from the United States?
Student: Ok. What I love about this country is that is developed in many areas, such as college athletics and sports in general. And I could not think about something that i don’t like about this country because I am a very optimistic person and instead of looking at things in a negative way, I try to see everything as an opportunity.
Reporter: Very interesting David and wise words. Keep up your positive attitude and I hope that you achieve all your goals. It has been a pleasure talking with you.
Student: Same here, thank you.

En Siena Heights University buscamos no solo el buen rendimiento escolar de nuestros estudiantes sino también su bienestar físico y moral. Pensamos que para triunfar y alcanzar la metas trazadas es importante que el estudiante, en este caso si es un estudiante internacional, se sienta a gusto con su entorno, la gente que le rodea, las comodidades y más. Esta semana entrevistamos un poco más a fondo a uno de nuestros estudiantes internacionales, quien nos contó sobre sus gustos y preferencias.
Reportera: Hola, como estas?
Estudiante: Estoy bien, gracias.
Reportera: Podrías decirnos tu nombre, por favor.
Estudiante: Me llamo David Felipe Parra Ruiz.
Reportera: Ok David, de que pais eres?
Estudiante: soy de Colombia.
Reportera: Que haces en tu tiempo? hay alguna actividad o deporte que practicas?
Estudiante: Pues sí, cuando no tengo mucha tarea,o estoy con mis amigos o juego al futbol. Es un deporte que me encanta y llevo jugando desde que era muy chiquito. Y me gusta jugar al fútbol porque aparte que me gusta mucho es una forma de hacer deporte y para mi es muy importante estar siempre en forma.
Reportera: Y tienes alguna comida preferida?
Estudiante: Si, se llama Ajiaco.
Reportera: Ajiaco? no me suena de nada, supongo que es comida tipica de tu país verdad?
Estudiante: Asi es, el Ajiaco es un plato tipico de mi pais.Es una especie de sopa con papa, pollo,
mazorca, platano, y hojas vegetables.
Reportera: Y que estas estudiando?
Estudiante: Estoy estudiando Sport Management, porque en el futuro quiero ser agente deportivo
en fútbol.
Reportera: Algún libro favorito?
Estudiante: Si, me gusta uno en particular. El libro se titula “ In Pursuit of Excellence.”
Reportera: Interesante…Y porque te gusta este el libro en particular? Quien es el autor?
Estudiante: El autor del libro es Terry Orlick y me gusta el libro porque habla sobre estrategias y técnicas para alcanzar la excelencia del deporte y es muy importante para mi porque es precisamente lo que quiero hacer con mi carrera.
Reportera: Estamos al punto final de nuestra entrevista, pero tengo una ultima pregunta: Que es lo que te gusta y no de los Estados Unidos?

Estudiante? Ok. Lo que me gusta de este país es lo desarrollado que esta en muchos ámbitos, como por ejemplo el deporte universitario y el deporte en general. Y lo que no me gusta,no sabría decirte ahora, porque soy una persona muy optimista y en vez de buscar negatividad a las cosas aunque estén mal, intento ver todo como una oportunidad y aprovechar al máximo.
Reportera: Muy interesante David y sabias palabras. Sigue con tu positivismo y cumpliras todas tus metas.Ha sido un placer hablar contigo.
