Men’s Basketball

Over break, the Saints participated in the WHAC tournament and went head-to-head against host and top-seeded Davenport. Early on the Saints held an early 14-10 lead before the hosts reeled off a 10-1 run. Toward the end of the first half, the Saints trailed by eight before knocking down back to back threes and ending the half only down by two. In the second half, the Saints trailed 41-29 before answering with a nine-point streak to close the gap. Although the Saints closed within four points on two separate occasions, they were unable to pull even and overtake Davenport, eventually falling 68-58. The Saints shot 47 percent from the field but was outrebounded by 10.

Baseball

Over the break, the Saints played five games in a span of four days down in Florida. On Tuesday the Saints took on Webber International for their first contest. Up until the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints had a 2-0 lead in part to Carson Wlad and his sixth inning sac fly to send in Dennis Sharp. Webber answered with a four- run bottom of the sixth inning and went on to add two more in the seventh while the Saints added one to hold a 6-3 lead going into the eighth. The Saints bounced back in the eighth with a three-run shot from Travis Stricklin and two more runs as a team in the ninth. Winning pitcher for the Saints was McPherson.

On Thursday the Saints played in a pair of games against Bellevue and Bethel scoring a total of four runs while giving up nine and three respectively. Both games the Saints fell behind early, giving up two runs in the first to Bellevue and one run against Bethel. The Saints rematched these two teams the following day with a repeat. Friday the Saints started out against Bellevue and trailed after the first inning 4-1 before getting blitzed in innings three and four with a total of nine runs eventually falling 16-1. Next the Saints took on Bethel for the second time in two days. Both teams went scoreless for the first five innings before Bethel ripped off two runs in the sixth to pull ahead. The Saints closed the gap in the eighth with a run scored by Freddy Jehle but gave up two more runs in the ninth to fall 4-1.

Men’s Lacrosse

Over break, the Saints had two matches against Asbury and Tennessee Wesleyan on the road. On Friday the Saints battled Asbury and were led by Tom Kreitzer with three goals and a host of Saints with a pair of goals including Spencer Macek and and Danny Orr. Saints goaltender Ryan Mailloux stopped four shots in 45 minutes while the Saints went on to win 15-3.

On Saturday,the Saints took on Tennessee Wesleyan and had a two goal, two assist performance from Shane Lewandowski. The Saints also got pairs of goals from Tom Kreitzer and Danny Orr. Ryan Mailloux had a 15-save game for the Saints as they went on to win 12-7.

Men’s Track

The Saints competed in the NAIA Indoors this past Spring Break and had several All-Americans named over the weekend at the Spire Institute. The Saints 4×4 team placed 10th with a time of 3:19.47 while the Saints high jumpers of Gerald Richardson and Ej Daffin took home seventh and eighth place honors jumping 6’9 ½” and 6’8 ¼” respectively.Dominic Muessig placed 12th in the 800 with a time of 1:55.25 while Samuel Parlette took 14th in 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:50.98. Frederick Boyd took 16th in the 60 meter hurdles. On the final day of the Championships, the Saints added three more placers with Richard DePalma placing 3rd in the pole vault clearing 16’ ¾”. Logan Gray added a 16th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 48’11” while Ej took 17th in the triple jump. As a team the Saints took 27th place with 9 points.

Men’s Volleyball

Over break, the Saints participated in five matches in a span of a week. On the 28th of February, the Saints battled both Warner and Cincinnati Christian at home. In match one, the Saints held a five-set battle against Cincinnati Christian, taking set one 25-20 before losing set two 27-25. The two teams traded sets again with the Saints taking set three 25-23 and lost set four 28-26. In the defining set, the Saints took shots back and forth but fell short by the score of 15-12. The Saints were led by Lance Blough and Gilius Blinstrubas with 16 and 14 kills respectively. Against Warner, the Saints fell short of set one 25-10 and sets two and three were the same scores of 25-19. Brody Davidson led the Saints with six kills followed by Max Field, Lance Bough, and Zach Haube with four kills each.

The following week the Saints won all three of their contests against Culver-Stockton, Cardinal Stritch, and Trinity International by scores of 3-2 3-2 and 3-1. All three matches were home contests with Blinstrubas totaling 52 kills followed by Tyler Hubbard with 36 respectively. The Saints take their three-game winning streak with them when they battle Adrian on Friday.

Cheer & Dance

The Saints Cheer and Dance teams have both earned bids to the NAIA Invitational on March 13-14 in Nebraska at Midland University.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Saints took part in two separate matches over break against Alderson-Broaddus and Tennessee Wesleyan. Against Alderson-Broaddus, the Saints outscored their opponent in both halves 4-3 and 6-4. Erin Kehn scored seven goals and had one assist while Aliisa Mason, Sydney VanHoose, and Sabrina Snow scored a goal apiece. In their other contest, the Saints were led by Madison Sabourin with three goals and three assists followed by Erin Kehn and Aliisa Mason with three goals a each. Tabitha Ferguson had nine goal saves and four caused turnovers to help the Saints with a 15-10 win.

Softball

Over break, the Saints traveled to Florida and went on to win nine of the 16 total games they played. The Saints were led by Mariah Boss with 16 total runs as well as Megan Jones and Kyndie Wolfinger with 19 and 10 hits respectively Kelsie Abbott handled the majority of pitching duties going 8-1 for the Saints and tallying a total of 42 strikeouts.

Women’s Track

This past weekend the Saints took part in the NAIA Indoors at the Spire Institute. Kasey Renshaw won the Weight throw for the Saints with a distance of 63’ 10 ¼” while Rebecca Cousineau took 11th with a distance of 54’ 4 ½”. Tasha McKinley and the Saint 4×8 team each made All-American honors in the pole vault and distance relay. McKinley took 3rd in pole vault with a height of 12’ 2 ¾” while the relay team of Mariah Ridal, Ashley Russo, Brianna Pekel, and Arika Knannlein took fifth 5th with a time of 9:15.45. Sheila Mckinley took 9th in the pole vault while Brianna Pekel got 2nd in the 600 while Knannlein took 19th with a time of 1:40.51. Jalesia Johnson placed 24th in the 200 with a time of 25.99.

On the final day of the NAIA Indoors, Phoenix Duncan came away National champ in the high jump with a clearing height of 5’8 ½” while fellow teammate Marissa Johnson took 6th in high jump with a height of 5’6”. Stephanie Marquardt went on to break her previous school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time 8.60 seconds, securing 3rd place. Brianna Pekel took 6th in the 600 while Renshaw took eighth in shot put. Haley Hudson finished the day for the Saints taking 18th place in the shot put with a distance of 40’ 6 ¼”. The Saints scored 43 team point, enough for them to take 4th as a team.
