Siena Heights Soccer Teams take on Lawrence Tech

The men’s and women’s soccer teams each played games on Saturday October 11, 2015 at O’Laughlin Stadium in front of their fellow peers. The men’s game was at 4:30 pm and the women’s game followed at 7:00 pm. Scheduling double headers makes it easier for spectators to enjoy both games. Sophomore Olivia Dameron can attest to this,

“I originally came to watch the men’s game, but it was nice to catch some of the women’s game too. We have a lot of talent at this school, and I think scheduling games like this is allowing more people to witness that.”

The first game of the day was men’s soccer vs. conference opponent Lawrence Tech, which ended in an unfortunate loss for the Saints. The solo goal for SHU was scored by Alexandre Santos when he completed a pass from Kevin Stalzer in the 62nd minute. This tied the game at 1-1. The Blue Devils fired back with a goal in the 70th minute and then again in the 88th minute, thus outscoring the Saints with a final score of 3-1. SHU goalkeeper Leo Hisamatsu made six saves in the goal. Lawrence Tech narrowly outshot Siena 15-10. The men’s current record is 6-3-2, which is a considerable improvement compared to last year’s record of 2-14-2.

The 15th ranked women’s team also played Lawrence Tech. They ended with a 4-0 victory, improving their record to 11-2 and maintaining their winning streak for home games (6-0). The lady Saints have not lost a single home game this season. Taylor Mulder and Paige Rachut scored goals each assisted by Danielle Eastman. Goals were also scored Samantha Bartelotti and Emily Loar. Rebecca Penny had the assist. Taylor Hill made two saves in the net. The Saints outshot Lawrence Tech 33-4.  Keep up the good work, SHU Soccer!
