Outside the Classroom: Psychology Faculty Member Jeffrey Lindstrom

Students normally just know their professors from taking their courses and interacting with them in the classroom setting. Many students don’t think about what their professors are like outside class setting, or just how interesting their professors really are. SHU Spectra talked to Professor Jeffrey Lindstrom to get the inside scoop of what he is like when he’s not teaching at Siena.

What classes do you teach at Siena, and how long have you worked at Siena?

“I teach in the psychology program here at Siena. I am completing my 14th year at Siena and 24th year (overall).”

What are some of your hobbies/interests/community activities outside of school? Could you describe them, and maybe give a couple of experiences you’ve had doing them?

“I enjoy cycling, gardening, and music. I ride my bike all over Lenawee County during the summer months. I used to try to ride over the summer the equivalent miles of the Tour de France (about 2200 miles). The farthest I have ever gone on a bike in a single ride is about 130 miles which took me between 9-10 hours. I live here in Adrian but I have ridden to Saline, Dundee, Lions (Ohio) and Hudson. It’s great exercise and a lot of fun. I like to grow my vegetable garden in the summer, and I especially like to grow corn, potatoes, and tomatoes. I give away a lot of what I grow, but for me most of the fun is in the growing. I really enjoy music, especially jazz. I play trombone in Siena’s jazz band and that is so much fun! I’ve wanted to learn how to play jazz piano but haven’t been able to find someone to teach me. The thing about music is that you can do it all your life. Long after I’m no longer able to ride my bike, I’ll still be able to play and enjoy music.”

Is there anything else that you’d like SHU students to know about you?

“I was born and raised in Michigan.”
