Speed Dating with A Sister Event A Success

On Tuesday, March 15, the Speed Dating with a Sister event took place as part of National Catholic Sisters Week. Since the week actually took place during spring break, the event was conducted a week later.

“We have held lunch with a sister, which is usually in correlation with the Adopt-a-Sister program, but this was something different we decided to try,” said Sister Mary Jones, who works in Mission Education at Siena Heights. “We basically brought the Sisters in, sat them at tables, then brought students staff, and faculty in to talk to them. They then took turns switching around the tables to talk to the sisters.

“The Sisters received thank you notes for participating, and we also sent out emails. The Sisters provided positive feedback about the event and getting to meet new students,” said Jones.

She said for future future events, “we would also love to invite the Sisterhood of Saints and Phi Sigma Sigma to have a sister sister night and get to know the Sisters.”

There were about 11 Adrian Dominican Sisters and 20 students and faculty who participated in this event.

“I would absolutely hold an event like this again. Even maybe holding it more than once a year to provide more opportunities for knowledge about the Sisters,” said Jones.
