What Is YOUR Scariest Movie?

Spectra Staff Writer Marlen Obama Escalada recently interviewed several SHU students on the scariest movies they have seen. Here are some of their responses.

Marlen: What would you say was the scariest movie you have witnessed?

Donte: The scariest movie I have witnessed would have to be “Paranormal Activity.”

M: Why would you suggest this movie being the scariest you have ever seen?

D:  I suggest that movie because Paranormal Activity was a movie about the unknown things that happen while you are asleep.  As a kid I was always afraid of the dark and was always nervous about going to sleep because I was scared something would happen to me as soon as I would doze off.  So for them to make a movie about that is what creeped me out because that was one of my fears for a long time.  Also it had to do with spirits and demon ghosts, which made the movie even spookier and unknown.

M: So, how do they know what exactly is going on if they are sleeping?

D:  Well in the movie, there is a couple who thinks their house has been broken into, so they buy cameras to set up around the whole house.  As they get the cameras set up and ready to catch someone in the act the next time, there started to be strange things happening to them at night.  Unknown sounds, weird events, and at one point even someone getting dragged out of bed by an invisible being.  So having the cameras around the house was the way the fans were able to view the footage of what was going on inside their home.

M: Is it a movie you would recommend to a friend?

D:  Yes, I believe I would recommend Paranormal Activity to a friend.  I liked the movie a lot because it tapped into a fear, which is what gave it such a thrilling experience because I could feel for the situations they were put in.

Marcus Rhea

Major: Sophomore in Sports Management

Marlen: What would you say is the scariest movie you have witnessed?

Marcus: The scariest movie I have witnessed will be “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Marlen: Why would you suggest this movie been the scariest you have ever seen?

Marcus: Because the killer came out at night and lived in the basement. He chopped bodies up with the chainsaw and hanged the leftover bodies up on hooks. He ripped people faces off to wear as a mask to scare people.

Marlen: Would you recommend this movie to friend?

Marcus: Yes, because it is very interesting and weird so its unique to watch something that crazy and exciting.

Leandro Mbomio

Major: Junior in Law and Politics

Marlen: What will you say is the scariest movie you have witnessed?

Leandro: The scariest movie I have witnessed would be “Chucky.”

Marlen: Why would you suggest is the scariest movie you have witnessed?

Leandro: Because the main character in the movie (Ray) possesses the doll, and then the doll in the movie starts killing people. The movie is a story about a criminal guy that the police chases, they shoot him and he runs away, but enters in a toys store and re-incarnates himself in the doll and the doll starts killing people in the movie. It was really scary to me.

Marlen: Is it a movie you would recommend anyone?

Leandro: No, because it’s scary and there is a lot of blood shedding.
